R&R TAYLORS MISTAKE ROGAINE SERIES off to a great start in 2010 4 March 2010 ![]() Like last year the first event of the series was held in beautiful warm conditions which made for stunning scenery and dry tracks. Starting at the carpark area north of the Bellbird the course spread south east to take in Living Springs which is a new area for the event. Only 9 or so teams out of 72 were tempted down as far as the Living Springs area. This series sees some new additions to the events - New sponsors, new categories and new results format. We are very pleased that Salomon, Julbo (sun glasses), Nature Valley (bars) and Winnie Bagoes have joined as sponsors of the series. This means better prizes and allows us to have new categories for the series prizes - mixed, female and veteran. Along side your score in the results you will see a list of controls you visited. This allows you to check our addition (please let us know if you think we are wrong) and also check out what other teams did. eg. 63 teams visited control 102 compared to 8 that visited control 23. We are glad to see that all controls were visited by at least 8 teams. The top score went to The Indestuctibles (Tim Farrant, Ross Rotherham, Tane Cambridge, 1850) closely followed by Control Freaks (Joel Smith, Elisha Nuttal, 1820) and The Manz (Rowan Nugteren, Carl Janssen, 1970). The average score was 1237. Tim, Ross and Tane also got the King of the Mountain prime of a new Salomon pack awarded to the first team that found the pack at control 93. We must apologise for control number 63 being marked wrong on the map. A big sorry about that. We know how much of a frustration that can be and feel really bad about it. If you were there and didn't find it please let us know. Many people had a wee chuckle about control 103's description - "a gorse bush". It was in fact a matagouari. Nora apologises for this saying that they don't have gorse or matagouari in Brazil where she comes from. All she every talks about is the sun and the sand! There were 5 family teams and we hope to have more lolly chasing youngsters coming along as we get closer to Godley Head over the next month. These are the next generation of rogainers. Next event is in Lyttelton. We'll update you beginning of next week about the exact start location. Yours with adventure, Nora and Ian Thanks to all our sponsors: R&R Sports, Salomon, Julbo, Nature Valley, Winnie Bagoes, Equilibrium, Lollyshop, Living Springs, Hotteams! |
